કીર્તન મુક્તાવલી
(૧) એક વાત સુણો વ્રજવાસી રે પુરુષોત્તમ બોલ્યા પ્રીતે
ઉપાસનાનું રહસ્ય
આ. સં. ૧૮૬૮. ગઢડા. એક રાત્રે શ્રીજી મહારાજ અચાનક અક્ષર ઓરડીમાંથી નીકળી સાધુની ધર્મશાળામાં પધાર્યા. મહારાજ પધાર્યા એટલે બધા સંતો એકદમ ભેગા થઈ ગયા. મહારાજ માટે આસન કર્યું અને મહારાજ તે ઉપર બિરાજ્યા. બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામી, પ્રેમાનંદ સ્વામી વગેરે સંતમંડળ મહારાજની સન્મુખ બેસી ગયું. પછી મહારાજે તેમને કહ્યું, “અમે અહીં તમને એક રહસ્યની વાત કરવા આવ્યા છીએ. તે તમને બરાબર સમજાશે ત્યારે તમને અમારા સ્વરૂપનો, અમારું જે અક્ષરધામ તેના સ્વરૂપનો, તેના મહિમાનો યથાર્થ ખ્યાલ આવશે. સર્વોપરી પ્રાપ્તિનો આનંદ આવશે અને ત્યારે જ તમે સત્સંગમાં સ્થિર થઈને રહી શકશો.”
મહારાજે એટલી વાત કરી ત્યારે બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામીએ કહ્યું, “તો, મહારાજ! ઝટ વાત કરો. અમારી અધીરાઈનો અંત લાવો.”
મહારાજ સંતોની સાચી વાત સમજવાની જિજ્ઞાસા જોઈ પ્રસન્ન થયા. તેમણે પછી ધીરેથી સૌના સામું જોતાં જોતાં વાત શરૂ કરી, “અમારું જે અક્ષરધામ છે તેનાં સગુણ અને નિર્ગુણ બે સ્વરૂપો છે. તે જ્યારે સગુણ સ્વરૂપ ધારણ કરે છે, ત્યારે અનંત બ્રહ્માંડોની ઉત્પત્તિ થાય છે. તેમના એ સગુણ સ્વરૂપના એક એક રોમમાં અનંત કોટિ મહાવિષ્ણુ અણુવત્ દેખાય છે. જ્યારે નિર્ગુણ સ્વરૂપ ધારણ કરે છે ત્યારે સમગ્ર બ્રહ્માંડોનો લય કરી દે છે. તે ધામમાં, જેમ નભમાં શબ્દ રહ્યો છે તેવી રીતે હું રહ્યો છું. અર્થાત્ જેમ નભ અને શબ્દને એકતા છે તેમ અમારે અક્ષર સાથે એવી એકતા છે. છતાં અક્ષરને પણ લીન કરી હું સ્વતંત્ર રીતે પણ રહ્યો છું. ઉત્પત્તિ સર્ગમાં અક્ષર પોતાની કળા વિસ્તારે છે ત્યારે હું પણ અનંત મૂર્તિ ધરીને બ્રહ્માંડોમાં પ્રગટ થાઉં છું.”
એટલું કહીને મહારાજ અટક્યા. સંતોને આ વાત કેટલી સમજાણી તે જોવા સૌના સામું જોયું. આવી રહસ્યભરી વાત સ્થિર થઈને સૌ સંતો સાંભળી રહ્યા હતા. મહારાજ આંખો મીંચી વાત કરી રહ્યા હતા. વાતના વિસ્તારમાં રાત્રી કેટલી ગઈ તેની કોઈને ખબર પડી નહીં.
મહારાજે આગળ વાત કરતાં કહ્યું, “આ વાત સમજવી ઘણી જ કઠણ છે. પરંતુ દૃષ્ટાંત આપીને તમને સમજાવું છું.” એમ કહીને મહારાજે કહ્યું, “જેમ આકાશમંડળમાં અસંખ્ય પંખીઓ ઊડે છે, વળી વાદળાં પણ રહે છે, વીજળી પણ રહે છે અને પાણી પણ રહે છે. આ બધાયનો આધાર આકાશ છે. એ આકાશના ગહેરા ઊંડાણમાં, શૂન્યભાવમાં આ બધી આકૃતિઓ સ્થિર થઈને રહી છે. જેમ હિમના સંબંધે જળ સ્થિર થઈ જાય તેમ! એ આકાશ એ અક્ષરને ઠેકાણે છે. શૂન્ય છે તે મહામાયા છે તે અક્ષરમાં લીન થઈને રહે છે. અનંત પંખીઓ અષ્ટાવરણેયુક્ત અનંત પુરુષના સ્વરૂપે છે. વાદળ એ મહાવિષ્ણુ સ્વરૂપે છે અને મુક્તો વીજળી સ્વરૂપે છે. આકાશમાં દેખાતી સ્થિર અને અસ્થિર ગતિ એ કાળના પ્રવાહનું સૂચક છે.” મહારાજ બોલ્યે જ જતા હતા. વાતનો વિસ્તાર ઘણો થયો. વાતનું રહસ્ય ગહન હતું એટલે કેટલાક સંતો ઝોલે ચડ્યા, કેટલાક ઊઠીને પ્રાતઃપ્રવૃત્તિની વિધિમાં ગૂંથાઈ ગયા!
મહારાજે આંખો ખોલી અને જોયું તો સામે ફક્ત પાંચ-સાત મોટેરા સદ્ગુરુઓ જ બેઠા હતા. મહારાજને આશ્ચર્ય થયું. તેમણે કહ્યું, “આપણે બેઠા ત્યારે તો સભામાં ઘણા સંતો હતા અને આટલા કેમ રહ્યા?”
બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામીએ કહ્યું, “મહારાજ! આપનું સ્વરૂપ જેમ ગહન તેમ આપની વાતો પણ ગહન. એ ઊંડાણમાં સૌ શૂન્યભાવને પામી ગયા!”
મહારાજ આ સાંભળી હસ્યા. તેમણે તરત જ કહ્યું, “આ વાત જ્યાં સુધી યથાર્થ નહીં સમજાય, ત્યાં સુધી એ શૂન્યભાવરૂપી માયા ઉલ્લંઘી શકાશે નહીં.”
એટલે તરત એક સંતે પૂછ્યું, “મહારાજ! કઈ વાત? આપે તો આ વાતમાં ઘણું ઘણું કહ્યું તેમાં અમારે મુદ્દાની કઈ વાત સમજવાની?”
મહારાજે કહ્યું, “બીજી કઈ વળી! અમારા સ્વરૂપની અને અમારા અક્ષરધામના સ્વરૂપની! આ બે સ્વરૂપોનું યથાર્થ જ્ઞાન થશે ત્યારે જ બ્રહ્મરૂપ થઈને અમારી સેવામાં રહી શકાશે.” એટલું કહી મહારાજે બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામીને કહ્યું, “આ વાત તમો કીર્તનમાં ઉતારી લ્યો, કારણ કે એ વાત સમજણના અંગની છે.” મહારાજની આ આજ્ઞા સાંભળી બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામીએ એક જ કીર્તનમાં મહારાજની વાતનું સમગ્ર રહસ્ય ઉતારી લીધું.

(1) Ek vāt suṇo Vrajvāsī re Puruṣhottam bolyā prīte
The Secret of Upāsanā
Samvat 1868. Gadhada. One night, Shriji Maharaj suddenly left his Akshar Ordi and made his way to the sadhu’s residence. Brahmanand Swami, Premanand Swami, and other sadhus gathered around and arranged a seat for him. Maharaj addressed the sadhus, “I have come here to reveal to you a secret talk. When you understand this talk thoroughly, then you will understand my form and the form of my Akshardham and its greatness as it is. And you will derive the bliss of this supreme attainment and will remain fixed in Satsang.”
Brahmanand Swami said, “Maharaj, tell us quickly. We are eager to hear.”
Maharaj was pleased to see the sadhus were curious. He started speaking gradually, “My Akshardham has two forms: sagun and nirgun. When it assumes the sagun form, then the infinite brahmānds are created. In each pore of the sagun form, countless Mahā-Vishnus appear like atoms. When it assumes the nirgun form, infinite brahmānds undergo dissolution. Just as words occupy space, I reside in that Akshardham; meaning, just as there is oneness between words (sound) and space, I have a oneness with Akshar. Nevertheless, eclipsing Akshar, I also reside independently. During the creation process, when Akshar proliferates his powers, I also assume countless murtis and manifest in the brahmānds.”
Saying this much, Maharaj stopped to see how much the sadhus understood the talk thus far. The sadhus were still. Maharaj continued, “This talk is difficult to understand. I will explain with an analogy. Countless birds fly in the sky. And clouds, lightning, and water also occupy the sky. The support of all these is space. Deep within this void of space, all these forms are still, just as water freezes with contact of frost. That space is analogous to Akshar. The void is analogous to Mahāmāyā. That Mahāmāyā merges into Akshar. The countless birds are analogous to the countless [Virāt] Purushes that are characterized by the eight barriers. The clouds are analogous to Mahā-Vishnus and the muktas are analogous to lightning. What appears mobile and immobile in space is the passage of time.”
The night passed as Maharaj spoke steadily. The talk was deep. Some sadhus started dozing off. Some got up to start their morning routine. Maharaj opened his eyes and saw only five to seven senior sadhus present. Surprised, Maharaj asked, “When we sat down, there were many sadhus. Why are only a few left?”
Brahmanand Swami said, “Maharaj, just as your form is unfathomable, your talks are unfathomable. Everyone drowned in your deep talks!”
Maharaj laughed and said, “Until you understand this talk, you will not be able to cross the great void of māyā.”
The sadhus asked, “What talk is that that we have to understand? Your talk was quite extensive. What was the main point that we were to understand?”
Maharaj responded, “What else did you have to understand other than my form and the form of my Akshardham? When you thoroughly gain the knowledge of these two forms, you will become brahmarup and remain in my service.” Then, Maharaj said to Brahmanand Swami, “Write this talk in a kirtan form because it contains principles that need to be understood.”
Brahmanand Swami complied and wrote a kirtan that contains the secret of this talk.
